Diclofenac belongs to a class of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which work by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2, thereby inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. It may also inhibit neutrophil aggregation and activation, inhibit chemotaxis, decrease proinflammatory cytokine levels, and alter lymphocyte activity.
